WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Packaging for Camel cigarettes is getting its first major revamp in 90 years.
The new look sports the classic Camel pyramid icon on a clean and contemporary looking white background. Graphics also celebrate Camel’s 1913 founding and include blue and green highlights, BrandWeek reports.
R.J. Reynolds, maker of the Camel brand, is not advertising in consumer publications during 2008. Therefore, marketing support will consist of “Our Best Smoke Ever” point-of-purchase materials and direct marketing with coupon offers to a consumer database and product sampling at adult events.
Overall the Camel franchise sold 24.2 million sticks last year, 3.1 percent more than 2006, and holds 7.8 percent share of the category, per the company’s financial statement.
Much of this growth was generated from new products launched during 2007 like Camel Signature Blend, Camel No. 9 and continued growth from Camel Wides, the magazine reported. Sales for the base brand of Turkish Domestic Blend smokes were flat.
